After the mayhem of this week, Sunday night’s watch party of The Holiday seemed to be just the comfort movie the doctor ordered.1 While not what most would consider a “history” movie, The Holiday was the feel good story we needed this week.
I was really happy not only to see the mainstays of the last six and a half years tweeting skeeting along, but a lot of new followers joining in for the the very first time. Maybe you’re reading this post now. I want you to know how happy I was to see new faces tonight. You are welcome here.
A couple things became apparent:
You guys loved Eli Wallach in the movie. Everyone kept stating that the Kate Winslet/Eli Wallach pairing was their favorite, though people really liked the unexpected Jack Black as romantic option in the movie.
Every hated Rufus Sewell’s Jasper. I mean, y’all really did. At some point we’re gonna have to talk about a guy like Sewell who plays the bad guy so well. He has to be the nicest guy in real life, right? I hope so.
According to apparently every person to post tonight, Jude Law is a very attractive human. Who knew.2
Based on the mass exodus from twitter to Blue Sky I was expecting a big night, though frankly I wasn’t expecting that kind of turnout, especially in the middle of football season when our audience is somewhat distracted.3 But according to the trackers on Blue Sky, #HATM was the #2 most posted hashtag for a solid two hours straight. That’s pretty awesome. Thanks guys.
So we have a big week ahead of us here at HATM global headquarters. I have two podcasts to record Monday, followed by pods Tuesday through Thursday. And of course we are launching Reckoning with Jason Herbert on Tuesday. Expect more on that tomorrow.
I’m trying to keep this short tonight and I know it’s gonna be hard to keep the faith for a while, but if this whole experience has taught me anything, it’s that we can lean on each other to get through the hard stuff.
Lastly, and because I think his image will get people to click on this post, here is a picture of my cat, Edward Teach. Here’s the thing about Ed: he will not hop on the couch without permission. He’ll sit on the floor and look up and wait for me to signal that he can come up. I’ve never seen anything like it. But he’s a good boy and if you were here, he’d ask you to give him scritches.
Y’all be good.
JWH
This is especially true considering that I am the doctor who ordered it.
Unrelated: I am buying new glasses.
Traditionally, HATM can defeat all comers except the NFL and Game of Thrones.
Is Ed a dog in disguise?
Thanks - we took a year or two off (plus we usually lurk), and it was great to come back!
