I've long been interested in Cuba, but my introduction to Cuba came as a very small child in Indiana, where my great grandfather told tales of his youth as a a US Army soldier as part of the occupation force after the Spanish-American War. For my masters thesis, I wrote about how America's involvement in that war in Cuba spawned the very first war movies, and then led to the creation of Hollywood as the world's film capital.
