Greetings and salamanders everyone. I’m typing this over some Cuban coffee as I prepare to travel across state today. My boys and their mom have moved to the Tampa area, providing me the perfect opportunity to get out of the Treasure Coast today. We’ve got about a three hour drive over, which means I’ll have the chance to make a dent on Candace Millard’s Theodore Roosevelt thriller, The River of Doubt, a book I spoke about with Ed O’Donnell while recording a podcast yesterday (look for that next month).
Despite the interest in T.R., I’m kind of amazed that have yet to see any big screen adaptations of the man. I know Leonardo Dicaprio was attached at one point to star, but it seems that that never took shape. Perhaps HATM Studios can produce. If any of you have about 35 million dollars, I think we can make a budget piece. But who would you cast as Roosevelt? Tell me below.
I’ve also been really focusing in with my boys this summer trying new things. My fifteen-year-old loves to cook, something I never learned as a kid in our very gendered kitchen.1 Last night was lamb chops and I thought in the spirit of sharing, I’d share the recipe we found and used to great effect: https://momsdish.com/lamb-loin-chops
This was the scene as I prepared to plate our dinner:
Don’t forget as we head into the weekend that this is our fifth birthday party on Sunday night, so stop in and say hi at 8pm eastern as we livetweet Titanic.
We actually covered that the idea of those spaces when we did Chef with Emily Contois and Zenia Kish on the second pod ever.
