When all our individual components finally died, we bought a single unit with a record player on top, cassette in the middle and CD on the bottom. Love being able to access all our music, especially since new cars no longer have CD players.
Oh, we had one of the units which played cassettes and cds also, and even one which was supposed to help digitize some of the vast mix tape collection, but a tape got stuck in it
Reel to reel equipment gone but I saved a few of the boxes from childhood faves
During my writing and research for my historical adventure novel, Black Rum and Dynamite, I fell in love with old Cuba. If I could travel back in time, that would be my first choice of destination. Maybe 1956.
I feel ya. Jimmy holds a very special place in my own heart. As a native Californian who now calls Kansas home, I try to get to the ocean as often as I can. There is nowhere I would rather be than in or on the water—especially salt water. I have a few of Jimmy’s albums in my 50 or so linear feet of LPs, including his last, Equal Strain on All Parts.
A Pirate Looks at 40 is one of my favorite songs, and I think the last verse is partially responsible for my moving from the midwest to a salty piece of land.
You might enjoy this episode I recorded with Leah Jones about what I call the Jimmy Buffett dilemma.
Never quite moved away from a record player, and now the lps easier to store and get at than cassettes or cds.

I remember reel-to-reel! My dad worked at a small radio station and invested in one. 👍
My father was an audiophile, so we had lots of equipment. He bought us cassette players in ‘66 when we moved to Germany
I was a foreign student in college, and the tapes in the lab were still reel to reel.
