When I was a kid, you could usually find me camped out on the couch next to my grandfather, especially late on summer evenings when the long days of working in the mussel shell business sent us to the den for a respite.
This piece made me think of another movie about a lone man of the west resisting modern life, but it contemporary to when it was made. The movie is Lonely Are the Brave, one of my favorites.
Masters of the Middle Waters sounds great, and I know authors don't set the prices of their books, but $44 for an ebook is outrageous! And my local library doesn't have it.
Ebook prices should be similar to what the book would be in the (now defunct) mass-market paperback.
It's too bad, because I was looking forward to reading this book.
Thank you for sharing your memory of your Grandaddy. ❤️
I grew up in Virginia and we lived four hours away from my mother’s parents, my only living grandparents, so visits were few. I was the firstborn grandchild, and my favorite memory is Sunday afternoons after the big Sunday dinner (I can smell the kitchen and dining room now), Grandpa and the six uncles (3 sons, 3 SILs) would gather in the front room of the farmhouse and watch baseball, me snuggled close to Grandpa. I remember one Sunday his mother, Granny Jones, joined us. After watching for a bit she said, “Well, I could throw it so he could hit it!” 😂
Completely off topic, but thank you for letting me share the memory.
