And you sold me, too!

I’m suddenly thinking about the displays and exhibits in these NPS sites hoping they’re archived …preserved against untimely loss.

Thank you Barbara! Reading that makes typing these things up at the end of a long day absolutely worth it. :)

I agree with you @Barbara at Projectkin. I’m praying for a return to our carefree days of discovery at our National Parks. Otherwise our descendants will never know the beautify of this great land.

Somehow we’ve got to right this ship with an eye to realistic preservation of natural resources and strive to tell the true, oft-times heartbreaking story of this land’s inhabitants throughout the ages.

Words are inadequate to describe my concerns.

Here on tiny Guemes Island in the Salish Sea of the Pacific Northwest, I’m pleased to witness bridging between Coast Salish indigenous nations and white Europeans. I see a partnership of appreciation for and care of the natural resources in our area. Thankfully there is also increasing thoughtful cross-cultural communication built on a foundation of mutual respect.

Love Ft Union - did they show you the aerial photo showing Santa Fe trail ruts on both sides of the Fort, and the actual remaining ruts? And if you go ½ hour further south on I-25 you get to Las Vegas NM - GREAT historical and quirky city with huge movie-making history going back to Tom Mix - "Film is nothing new to Las Vegas. Our rural community has been the host to a number of productions starting with early silent westerns (1913-1915) starring the actor/writer/director, Tom Mix, as well as Easy Rider (1969), Red Dawn (1984), Speechless (1994), All the Pretty Horses (2000), Astronaut Farmer (2006), Academy Award-winning No Country for Old Men (2007), multi-Emmy-award-nominated film Georgia O’Keeffe (2009), Due Date (2010), and A&E’s Longmire (2011-13), among many others."

Brilliant, well written, thank you. Sharing with Kevin Levin.

Re: Val Kilmer, RIP. I think his performance in Top Gun: Maverick was a real testimony to his bravery. Please, no Oliver Stone. I realize that The Doors gave Kilmer’s career a real boost, but… Oliver Stone 👎

I’ve also been thinking about what will happen to places like you describe that have started to incorporate indigenous history in their public areas. Pecos National Historical Park, also in NM, has a terrific museum

Thank you. I knew that there was some Civil War Action out west, but not that far west. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the last battle was fought near Brownsville, Texas after the surrender. When I lived there, I went and found a plaque where the battle was. A lonely and desolate place.
