Revisiting Steven Spielberg's Lincoln
Or, more importantly, was the Greatest President the Hottest President?
Abraham Lincoln is a Kentuckian and does not belong to Illinois.
Now that we have that out of the way, I was joined by two absolute history megastars in Lindsay Chervinsky and Megan Kate Nelson this week to talk about Lincoln (2012). If you came to know me via twitter then you’re probably familiar with both of them, so I’ll save the introductions for the show link and just tell you want you need to know: they’re both brilliant, exceptionally kind, and really freaking cool.
In this episode of the Historians At The Movies Podcast we get into the ins and outs of all things Lincoln and the Civil War, jumping into the nitty gritty over the film’s accuracy, its meaning over time, how the West shaped Abraham Lincoln, and Kentucky’s interesting role in American history. We talk broadly about our favorite Presidents. And yes, folks, we do in fact rank the hottest Chief Executive Officers in American history. Links below.
If you’re not watching Super Bowl this week, then perhaps you’ll join in on the #HATM Valentine’s Day Special. This Sunday night we are live tweeting La La Land. If you haven’t seen it before, prepare yourself. The film features the biggest emotional swings in its final moments of anything I’ve ever seen. I screamed. As I said earlier this week, La La Land broke me. Naturally, that means we should watch it together. You can find it on Netflix. We’ll be tweeting along Sunday night at 8pm eastern. Look for me on twitter at herberthistory.
Finally folks, if you’re digging the pod and the community we are building, please do tell your friends. Share this thing on twitter or on facebook and please do subscribe. But regardless, thanks for tuning in and being part of it. More coming soon.
What a good subject and cast!
