Reckoning LIVE EVENT April 11
Kate Sheppard returns to talk The Mummy Returns
If you haven’t noticed, Brendan Fraser is having a bit of a comeback, though I suppose an Oscar win will do that for you. Naturally, that means his most famous role—that of gunslinging adventurer Rick O’Connell—is also coming back for a legacy sequel, due to hit theaters in May 2028.
I suppose that means it’s also time for Kate Sheppard to return to the podcast as well. (This is A LOT of returning.) Anyway: here’s your official announcement:
Reckoning with Jason Herbert will be taping a live episode with guest Dr. Kathleen Sheppard at the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) Annual Conference in Westminster, Colorado, on Saturday, April 11 at 4:15pm Mountain Time. The event will be held at the The Westin Westminster located at 10600 Westminster Blvd, Westminster, CO 80020. Naturally, we’ll be talking about the 2001 film, The Mummy Returns while also taking questions about Egypt in film, women Egyptologists, and the varying levels of the cast’s hotness, both then and now.
Tickets are $25 and go to support Graduate Student Best Paper and Poster Prizes. You can register at www.arce.org/annual-meeting
To save you from reading any more, I’ve attached this flyer:
I’ll be around all evening, so come out at watch the show, meet me and Kate, and learn a little and laugh a lot. This will be fun.
Oh, by the way, I wasn’t kidding when I said there was a lot of sequels going on. This pod will actually be the sequel to the very first conversation Kate and I ever had, about the 1999 film, The Mummy. We also talk about her book Women in the Valley of the Kings: The Untold Story of Women Egyptologists in the Gilded Age that I told you about on Sunday. It’s still one of the best episodes we’ve ever done, so if you want, check it out below.
Alright. It’s late and I desperately need to remember not to sleep on the couch tonight. I hope that by the time you read this that you’re on your way to a great Tuesday.
-Jason
PS- I just realized as I was pressing send that this is the movie responsible for introducing the world to Dwayne Johnson’s “acting” skills. Oh man. This might get brutal.
