Hi everyone and good morning from I-25 as by the time you read this I’ll be on my way to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the week to partake in the United States Forest Service Equity Summit, where folks like me spend time learning to be better partners with tribal communities across the country. I’ve only been to New Mexico once before and never to Albuquerque, so I’m looking forward to a great week learning how to better serve the needs of our tribal partners here in the Forest Service but also just in general.
Speaking of which, we’ve had a few news agencies ask about what it is that I do, so I thought I might share some of those links here. Here is a link from a story by Colette Bordelon from Denver 7. And another from Bill Folsom at KOAA in Colorado Springs. If podcasts are more your thing, Outdoors with Hiking Bob, an outdoors podcast based in Colorado, did a much longer discussion with me where I talk about my career as a scholar and role with the Forest Service. You can find that below.
If I’m lucky, I’ll get a chance to visit Las Vegas, New Mexico, where much of Red Dawn was actually filmed. That’s good because Kathleen Belew and I will be taping on that film in about a week and I can’t wait for that. Also, I need your food recommendations for all things Albuquerque.
HATM Sunday night
Coming off the success of our Masters of the Air series, I thought perhaps we could do a watch party of what I consider to be an outstanding WWII film, David Ayer and Brad Pitt’s Fury, which follows the exploits of Sherman tank crew late in the war. It’s available on Netflix, so join us there at 8pm eastern on Sunday, March 24th. If you haven’t seen it, the trailer is below.
By the way, if you’re looking for a deeper dive on this, Waitman Beorn, a former tank driver and now historian, and I did a pod on this a few months back. You can find that here:
Alright, that’s all for now. I’ll try to post as best I can from the road. Hope you have a great start to your week.
