We’ve been on a bit of a roll around here lately. I think a lot of that has been finally coming to terms with living in Colorado and allowing myself to enjoy it. That doesn’t mean that life isn’t without its challenges—I’ve got to replace this laptop, my son took a good lick in football, resulting in a concussion, and then of course there’s the food here (sorry, I had to).
But maybe for the first time since before I even moved to Colorado, I’m feeling like someway, somehow things are going to be alright. And that is pushing me through the days lately.
And despite the challenges, good things are happening: we hit 150k downloads on Reckoning with Jason Herbert, I signed deals to give talks at two major universities, and I received orders to go on my first fire here at the Forest Service. I’ll be leaving Tuesday morning to assist with the Turner Gulch fire in northwest Colorado (more on that later).
So while I pack, I wanted to leave you with a song that’s been in my head a lot recently. You might call it my hype song, but maybe it’s my reassurance song. It’s called “Odds Are” by Barenaked Ladies, and well, it’s gonna be alright. Give it a listen. I think you might like the message.
I’ll share what I can as I can this week. Thanks for being here.
Jason
As a Pueblo native who left many years ago, the only thing I DO miss is the food! I still hit Mill Stop whenever I'm down that way. And I'm assuming you've had a Passkey and didn't love it? Shame on you! :) Prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts go with you as you go to fight the fire. Be safe!
Be safe and stick to your training. I say this as the mom of a college volunteer firefighter who went on to be a USN Damage Controlman.
