New books out today
November 4, 2025
Hi everyone,
Quick post today but just in time for holiday season (yup, Christmas is upon us). There are two books out today that you might wanna take a look at.
First is Rick Bell’s new history of the American Revolution. I read this a couple weeks ago and it’s terrific because it really demonstrates how the conflict was a global affair. You’ll read about places far beyond Yorktown, including India, Africa, Australia, and Central America. Not only were these places heavily involved in the war, but the American victory had big implications (some good, some really bad) for them. Rick’s episode will be on the pod next week but in the meantime, check it out:

Up next is Max Perry Mueller’s new history of the American West, as seen through a guy you’ve probably never encountered before. Wakara was a Ute man who was known in his time as a fierce fighter, a trader of Indian slaves, and perhaps the greatest horse thief in history. He also cannily negotiated cultural landscapes, converted to Mormonism, and pushed back on colonial expansion. I’m reading this book now, and am absolutely captivated. I know Max worked closely with some Ute elders on this book and I’m excited to talk to him about it when we record in a couple weeks.

Alright, I’m off to go vote now. No matter what you believe, know that local elections matter, and so does your opinion. Get out there and have it heard!
