Hey everyone, I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Florida and I have so much to share with you from that trip (coming shortly). In the meantime, AppleTV dropped the fourth episode of the series Masters of the Air over the weekend, and we have a recap for you.
Of course, I wasn’t here for the recording. So in a first for the Podcast, we have a guest host: #HATM mainstay and my friend, Dr. Sarah Myers. Sarah is guesting each week on the pod during the series so it was awesome of her to take the reins. Joining in as always was Dr. Luke Truxal as well as our mutual friend Dr. Colin Colbourn, who you can also here on the Ferrari episode that debuted last week. They’re awesome and Sarah’s job shows how easily I can be replaced on my own podcast.
As before, the squad opens with some spoiler-free thoughts before digging into the nuts and bolts of the episode. The conversation then delves into the significance of the number of missions and the experiences of aircrews reaching their 25th mission. The hosts also explore the portrayal of resistance movements and the complexities of their actions. Finally, they discuss the role of the Red Cross and USO in providing support and entertainment to the troops. This episode dives into the experiences of women serving with the USO and Red Cross, highlighting the complexities of romantic and sexual relations during wartime. The impact of squad deaths and the reactions of the characters are explored, shedding light on the psychological toll of losing leaders and friends. The role of pets in boosting morale is also touched upon, showcasing the importance of companionship during challenging times. Additionally, the episode raises questions about the deterioration of Chick Harding as a commander and the challenges faced by ground crews in maintaining aircraft and morale.
I really can’t thank Sarah, Luke, and Colin enough for this episode, so I hope you’ll dig it. Links below.
We also saw during the Super Bowl the trailer for the new film Twisters. Some are naturally going to complain about this, but as someone who lived in Wichita, Kansas for five years, all I can say is BRING IT ON.
HATM Sunday Night
Now with that pesky football season behind us (and since only Craig Bruce Smith watches hockey) we can get back to the business of HATM watch parties. Join us this Sunday, February 18th at 8pm eastern for Fried Green Tomatoes, available on Netflix.
Hey, thanks for being part of HATM. I am so glad you are here.
